Longing for Fuller Lips? Give a Lip Filler Treatment a Try
When it comes to your facial features and the impression you make on others, your lips play a starring role. Firm, full, luscious lips don’t just look more attractive — they can also help you look younger. Unfortunately, full lips rarely occur naturally, and even when they do, the effects of aging can take their toll, reducing natural fullness so lips look thinner and less attractive.
The good news is, with lip fillers, you can restore the luscious fullness of youthful lips, and you can do it in just one appointment. At Open Canvas Laser, we offer special formulations of both Restylane® and JUVÉDERM® so you can get that pouty, full look you want.
Restylane and JUVÉDERM: Plumper lips from the inside-out
To understand how Restylane and JUVÉDERM work to plump up lips, it’s important to understand what causes lips to become thinner as we get older. When we’re very young, our bodies contain a high level of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that attracts and holds moisture. Hyaluronic acid is found in our skin and in our lips, and when we’re young, those higher levels keep skin and lips looking plump and refreshed. As we age, though, our body doesn’t produce nearly as much hyaluronic acid, and that means our lips can’t hold on to moisture the way they used to. At the same time, our levels of collagen begin to decline. Collagen networks are a big reason why our skin and our lips feel resilient, soft and firm when we’re young. As collagen levels decrease, our lips and the skin around them start to lose that firm fullness.
Restylane and JUVÉDERM both contain hyaluronic acid. When these solutions are injected into your lips, they help replace the acids lost to aging, supplementing the hyaluronic acid your body is still producing, so your lips can attract and retain plumping moisture. At the same time, the injections promote collagen production to support that new fullness over time.
Better still, lip filler treatments take less than 20 minutes, and because both formulations contain lidocaine (a mild anesthetic), your treatments can be surprisingly comfortable. We can even use a topical anesthetic before your treatments if you're nervous or if your lips are very sensitive. After your treatment, you can expect your results to last up to a year, and with touch-up treatments, they can last indefinitely.
What about over-the-counter lip plumpers?
Since plump, luscious lips are so popular, it’s not surprising cosmetic companies have tried to cash in with over-the-counter products they claim can plump lips. Most of these products work by irritating your lips, the same way a hot pepper or spicy curry can make your lips temporarily puffy. Of course, those results are only temporary, and often, they wear off in a very brief period of time. What’s more, the amount of plumping they can achieve is usually so minimal that you might not even notice it. Bottom line: They simply don’t compare in any way with professional lip plumping using a tested dermal filler like Restylane or JUVÉDERM.
The same is true of lip-plumping devices that use suction to temporarily puff out your lips. (Some people actually try to get the same effect by sucking on a shot glass — with really unattractive results.) Like lip plumpers, suction devices only provide a temporary puffing-up, and with too much use, they can even cause bruising and tissue damage. Not a good idea. As with lip-plumping cosmetics, when it comes to these devices, there's just no substitute for professional lip fillers that have a long history of safety, not to mention great, natural-looking results.
